Lock Twenty-Five - Thorold, Ontario

This lock actually still remains within the Battle Of Beaverdams Park, located on Sullivan Ave, near Front St. Within the park itself, walk towards the ampitheater and there directly in front of it are the remains of Lock Twenty-Five

Here are some pictures of Lock Twenty-Five:

From here on in, to tour the rest of the locks, you are going to need to do a lot of driving. I have provided the intersections and cities so you can plan your trip to view the remaining locks. It is always a fun adventure to find history, so let's keep going!

Lock Twenty-Six - Thorold, Ontario

Lock Twenty-Six is non existant today. Its location can still be visited though. There is a set of baseball fields (Ross Stephenson Centennial Park), in between Holland Road and Highway 20 close to the Allanburg bridge of the current Welland Canal. If you walk down the Welland Canal trail, just across from the middle of the back baseball field is the location of Lock Twenty-Six. Just look for the little monument and this is where the lock itself is located.

Guard Lock - Thorold, Ontario

The Second Welland Canal's Guard Lock is located just past the Allanburg bridge (Highway 20) heading towards Port Robinson. If you stand on the bridge and look down you will see the remaining wall of this lock.

Here are some pictures of the Guard Lock:

Interesting tidbit here, if you follow the fence down to the end of the Guard Lock and look down in to the grass, you will find a mostly buried weir.

Here are some pictures of that weir:

River Lock - Port Robinson, Ontario

The Second Welland Canal also had what we call a River Lock. This lock was used to allow ships access to the Welland River. It is located on River Road in Port Robinson. Easiest way to get there is to follow Allanburg Road all the way down, Turn right on to Canby Street. This turns in to River Road and then keep your eye out, you will see it on your left hand side, across from a park.

Here are some pictures of the River Lock:

Lock Twenty-Seven - Port Colborne, Ontario

Finally we are at the end of the Second Welland Canal. The last lock before exiting in to Lake Erie. You can find this lock at the cross roads of Clarence Street and West Street in Port Colborne. Lock Twenty-Seven runs parallel to West Street.

Thus concludes our tour of the Second Welland Canal.
